I won't have any Halloween critters in my drawings until I hit the drawing table later tonight, these are just more school folks passing me while waiting for Devin to finish choir practice. Sometimes these people see me drawing but they never say anything to me, and most of them do their best to ignore me. Makes me feel invisible, el hombre invisible, but sometimes a little lonely, everyone in the hard nutshells of their lives, and me on the outside making my quiet notes.
Daily (or near as possible) postings of drawings, watercolors, small paintings, the occasional photograph, and word dribblings.

Signs
Boy with bag, first a girl started telling me about a mark on the sidewalk that had been there "FOREVER", then a boy leaps off the bench showing me his handpainted art paper sack, and of course I put this together to mean "cover your stain!", then I saw the stone worm woman, which is self explanatory. Another day in the microcosm...

woman
The same woman, two drawings, the top one captures better what shes like inside, these dark spots inside her, shes just some woman who lives next to me, plain not pretty or anything, always seems like life has her by the heels, I think she's from Missouri, has two kids, and of course Dad's gone fighting the good fight. There's a really large rabbit hutch in the dining room of their house, no table or chairs, just this big white animal cage with a pink base, in the backyard a dead garden that the family was so excited about planting when they first moved in, makes me think about that Tom Waits song about a rose on another man's vine, except there are no roses, just rabbits and dead tomato plants.

women
a curly headed lady who had a lot of dingle dangles in her pockets, a woman at the customer service desk of the department store, and another woman i saw at my son's school. it was raining, i was sitting on a bench, and i looked up just as she looked at me, a weird moment, we just sort of floated there in the moment for a second before she walked away. i really liked the way the drawing turned out.

ants
The night after the earthquake my downstairs bathroom was invaded by thousands of ants. I walked in and every part of the walls was covered in ants. Took me hours to clean the damn things up. I think the earthquake must have done something to their nest and they came into my bathroom. My cat had caught several of the winged males and held them prisoner between his paws.
assortments
Just some random people, the biggest news around here was Sunday's earthquake, which as you can tell from my drawing wasn't as exciting as CNN made it out to be. Our power was out for the day, that was about it, the bed shook, my son said "that was the coolest thing ever!" but I read Murakami all day and griped to my cats about not being able to have coffee.
